As in previous years, SMC 2025 welcomes original, previously unpublished contributions between 4 and 8 pages, written in English, which must be submitted as PDF documents generated from the SMC paper template (see below). Authors of accepted papers will be required to prepare 2-minute video presentations of their work, to be made available on the conference website. Those attending in person will be presenting their work in poster and demo sessions preceded by a short kick-off oral session featuring a 5-minute presentation per poster or demo.
Auditory Landscapes
This year’s theme is “Auditory Landscapes”. Submissions emphasizing this topic are strongly encouraged.
Several approaches are thinkable for such “Auditory Landscapes”. For instance, one approach may refer to “Auditory Landscapes” in terms of sonification of environmental data, to make them perceivable through listening. Sonic interaction design might offer ways to interact audibly with a landscape. An acoustic ecology and soundscape approach may consider investigating psycho-acoustically relevant features and metrics to define differences or similarities between auditory landscapes. New methods and tools may consider to create and refine auditory landscapes. Creating and refining auditory landscapes typically involves, beside sound field capturing with microphone arrays and convincing reproduction via headphones or loudspeakers, several key processes: design, evaluation, manipulation, and augmentation. These are accomplished using classical signal processing, machine learning algorithms, and deep neural networks, all working together to improve automatic source separation, source recognition, and the classification of sounds and music.
General conference topics include, but are not limited to:
- Algorithms and Systems for music composition
- Auditory display and sonification

Submissions
All submissions will undergo a peer review process, but authors are not required to anonymize their contributions: SMC 2025 applies a single-blind peer review. All accepted papers will be included in the SMC 2025 Conference Proceedings, but publication is conditional on the presenting author’s participation in the conference. Please indicate in the submission form if the first author is a student. Information on registration procedures and fees will be published in January 2025. The proceedings will have an ISBN, and the electronic version will be available on the SMC website and on Zenodo.
Submissions should be made using the SMC2025 Conference Management Toolkit’s website (a link to the website will be provided here in time).
The submission of the title, abstract, and complete list of authors should be done first, followed by the submission of the full paper as PDF (maximum file size: 20MB).
Templates
Submitted papers must be generated from our templates:
