Auditory Landscapes

From the soundscapes emphasizing environmental awareness to the auditory landscapes in the context of storytelling – from ambient music and musique spectrale to installation and land art: the usage, design, or simply the pointing to audible phenomena in an infinite variety of setups unifies artists and scientists from very different knowledge cultures. Thereby, boundaries between sound and music, between artistic, didactic, and entertaining goals are blurred. That can open the door to the Tower of Babel but also provide the chance for surprising new connections in an artistic sense – and extend our perception of the world.

July 12 - Goodbye

After three inspiring days, the 22nd Sound and Music Computing Conference and Summer School 2025 (SMC 2025) has come to a close!

We welcomed over 140 participants from 29 countries across 5 continents at the MUMUTH, bringing together a truly global community of researchers, artists, and practitioners. Together, we explored the cutting edge of sound and music computing through: 🎡 3 concerts, 🎧 multiple audio installations, and πŸ“š over 50 paper presentations and posters that sparked meaningful discussions and collaborations.

We were also honored to host two exceptional keynote speakers: Jana Winderen with her talk Listening With, which invited us to rethink how we listen to and engage with our environment, and Till Bovermann with Listening to Infrastructures, which challenged our perception of structures that support our creative practices.

A heartfelt thank you to all the participants, presenters, performers, and organizers who made SMC 2025 such a success. Your passion and creativity continue to inspire the future of sound and music computing.

See you next year in Zagreb!
